Israel obeyed God’s commands to them (Deut. chs 11 and 27), which were to help them keep God central, by:
Building the altar at Shechem
Following Abraham and Jacob (Gen. 12:6-9, 33:18-20)
Marking the land as having been given to Israel by God
Making burnt and fellowship offerings
To restore a right relationship with God
Our altar is the cross, where the once for all sacrifice was made by the Lord Jesus. We therefore keep God central by:
Taking part in the Lord’s Supper
Encouraging each other as we meet together as one people
All of Israel listening to all of God’s word
Reminding Israel of the blessings and curses that came through obedience and disobedience
Our Scriptures are complete, and we read them to help keep God central. As we obey him, we pray that he would bless our work for him
So, how do we keep God central?
Acts 2:42 - They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer
